How often do you read or get told that you should practice gratitude? Probably a lot.
You probably also don’t know the benefits that come with it, why you should practice it, or what gratitude even is.

What is gratitude?
According to dictionary.com, gratitude is “the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful.”
It can be viewed as the appreciation of someone or something without monetary value.
The culmination of small, daily, grateful moments, strengthens your ability to notice the good around you.
Why you should start practicing gratitude
By expressing and receiving gratitude daily, not only do we release dopamine and serotonin, but we can also strengthen the neural pathways to create a permanent positive nature within ourselves.

The easy way to practice gratitude in the morning
Keep a gratitude journal
Keeping a journal is one of the easiest ways to implement gratitude every day.
What do you need to do? You can keep it simple by writing 3 things that you’re grateful for. This could be something that happened the day before or something that’s happening the same day for example.
It doesn’t have to be an essay; it can just be 1 word.
To develop this into habit there’s a couple of tricks you can implement
1. Habit stacking
This is the act of taking a new habit you want to develop and pairing it with something that already is autonomous.
This for example could be as simple as when you turn the kettle on in the morning and you’re waiting for it to boil, you write the 3 things you’re grateful for then.
2. Treat yourself to the tools needed
Depending on your preference, you can opt for pen and paper or an app.
The app I love to use is Stoic. You can either add a journal entry or follow their prompted journaling exercise which includes ‘3 things you’re grateful for’.
I also love a good notebook.
